General Details

The Old Coach House, Boscastle

Situated on the Tintagel Road near the top of the old village of Boscastle, The Old Coach House was built about 300 years ago.

It was originally the coach store and stables for a bigger house that was knocked down 150 years ago, to make way for a new road.

At the end of the 19th century, the building was converted into 2 private dwellings.

However, in more recent times it was turned back into a single establishment, restored and modernised to offer a high standard of bed and breakfast accommodation.

The Old Coach House has a large garden, which provides an ideal place to sit and relax, taking in the scenery and perhaps enjoying a quiet glass of wine.

Leisure

[The Old Coach House - The Harbour] [The Old Coach House - Picturesque Cottage in Boscastle] [The Old Coach House - Arthur's Seat]

The picturesque harbour at Boscastle, now owned and looked after by the National Trust, was built in the middle of the 1500's by Sir Richard Grenvillle, who was then the High Sheriff of Cornwall.

The harbour flourished in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, as road traffic was nearly impossible due to the state of the unmade roads.

Today the harbour is used by local fishermen as well as being much photographed by visitors.

Some of the cottages built at the same time as the harbour can still be seen in the older parts of Boscastle today.

One of the many walks that can be taken to explore this area is the path which goes along the side of the Valnecy river to St Juliot's church. It was at this church that Thomas Hardy first met Emma, the sister of the vicar, who was to become Hardy's first wife.

Close to Boscastle are many other interesting and fascinating places to visit, which makes The Old Coach House an ideal centre for your holiday.

For example there is Tintagel with King Arthur's castle.

Also close by there are opportunities for swimming, surfing, fishing, bird watching, horse riding, cycling and many other activities which lead to a varied and enjoyable holiday.
