Close to Glastonbury, Wells and Shepton Mallet in Somerset, this Georgian farmhouse offers high quality bed and breakfast accommodation.
Clanville Manor is constructed of the local honey-coloured 'Cary' stone and is set in picturesque Somerset countryside.
The farmhouse B&B was built in 1743 and is, above all, a family home.
The Snook family bought the manor from the Hoare estate in 1898 and ran a dairy farm here for over 100 years [they sold the dairy herd in November 2003 and are now building up a beef herd].
The house retains a great deal of its original features, but provides modern and comfortable accommodation.
There is an oak staircase in the flagstone entrance hall, with a lovely arched window halfway up.
Guests are welcome to use the drawing room for reading, relaxing, or television viewing.
Please note that dogs are not allowed to visit, as there are cats and a dog in residence!
This is a welcoming, wonderful place to stay - expect the highest standards of accommodation with all of the little touches to make you feel at home, and smoked sausages for breakfast from the local butcher.
There are four letting bedrooms in the farmhouse providing flexible accommodation in single, twin and double rooms.
The Four-Poster bedroom has a six-foot wide four-poster double bed, and an en-suite shower room.
The second room has twin beds that can be 'linked' together to form a super-king size double bed.
The twin/superking room has an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath.
The third bedroom is a single and has an en-suite shower room.
All rooms are beautifully furnished and equipped with:
- En-suite bath or shower room
- Modern beds, plumbing and central heating
- Flat screen LCD television with digital 'Freeview' channels
- Radio alarm clock
- Tea and coffee making facilities
The fourth bedroom has a King size [5' wide] double 'Sleigh' bed, and a spacious en-suite shower room. It can be let as a single room for a small supplement if the single room is already let.
Food and Drink
A full English breakfast, using local produce, is served each morning in the dining room, which overlooks the pond and the driveway of the farmhouse.
Fruit, yoghurt and vegetarian options are available, other diets can be catered for with prior notice.Fresh eggs are laid by Clanville Manor's own hens.
In the evening there is plenty of choice for food and drink, with several excellent restaurants and pubs in the locality.
The idyllic grounds of this family home extend to 200 acres and whilst they are secluded and peaceful, the bustling town of Castle Cary is within 2 miles. For directions, please see the Clanville Manor web site [link at top of this page]. The house is in a rural location about a mile from Castle Cary railway station [on the B3153 road].
Public transport is sometimes erratic, taxis are expensive and hard to find - so it is highly recommended that you have your own car to explore the area fully.
The River Brue runs through the fields behind the house - bring a pair of Wellington boots, or borrow a pair from the house, so that you can enjoy walking along its banks.
If you are lucky you may see one of the resident kingfishers, or a badger as it plays on the river bank!
In the Autumn conkers can be collected beneath the many horse chestnut trees.
During the warmer months a private outdoor swimming pool is available for guests.
The walled garden also has a children's 'Wendy House' and gives access to the river with picnic areas on unspoilt river banks.
This location is also ideal for touring the whole of the region. Its many attractions include:
- Glastonbury Tor and Abbey
- 8 miles from Glastonbury Festival site at Pilton
- Wells Cathedral
- Stourhead Garden and Alfred's Tower
- Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves
- Montacute House and other National Trust properties
- Sparkford Motor Museum
- Yeovilton Air Museum
A public golf course is 2 miles away and the towns of Bath, Bristol and Salisbury are all within easy reach.
Bed and Breakfast from £40.00 - £55.00 per person per night.
A maximum of six guests can be accommodated in the B&B at any time.
This is a totally non smoking B&B.
Children over 10 years accepted.
Please bring towels if you will be using the outdoor pool at Clanville Manor farmhouse. The pool is shared with guests staying at The Tallet Cottage and Lone Oak Cottage, so a 'rota' system will apply when all accommodation is full, so that everyone can be sure of private time in the pool!
Clanville Manor offers highly recommended accommodation! The bed and breakfast has 4 Stars, plus a Gold Award, from Visit Britain, and 4 Stars from the AA. Sally Snook has been a finalist [in the top 20] for the Landlady of the Year Award!
