The Old School

This bed and breakfast accommodation is perfectly located for holidays in Norfolk, three miles from Fakenham and two miles from Little Walsingham.

The small village of East Barsham is in a little valley which carries the River Stiffkey between the rolling hills of this unspoilt part of rural England.

This family home, once a Victorian school and schoolmaster's cottage, is an ideal base from which to explore the Norfolk coast and the many historical places in this area.

All of the guest rooms are in the cottage part of the B&B - offering tranquil and private accommodation with its own entrance.

Each room has a colour television, plus tea and coffee making facilities.

Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor, with a double bed and an adjoining private toilet and shower room. Bedrooms 2, 3 and 4 are on first floor level.

Bedroom 2 has a single bed and overlooks the rear garden. Bedroom 3 has twin beds, an original feature fireplace and views over the River Stiffkey.

Bedroom 4 has either twin beds or a large double.

The room also has an original fireplace and fitted clothes cupboard. It overlooks the rear courtyard, with its sanctuary garden and flower beds.

Each morning guests can choose between a Full Norfolk Breakfast or a Continental-style start to the day.

Local produce is used wherever possible, including Norfolk bacon and sausages, home-baked bread and homemade preserves - including marmalades, crab-apple jam and lemon curd.

Guests arriving in the late afternoon may be greeted with a pot of tea or coffee, with homemade scones, fruitcake or Norfolk shortbread.

For other meals, there are many alternatives in nearby Fakenham, or the local village inn has an extensive menu and is only a short walk away - Old School guests are given priority booking for evening meals.

The Old School is located in the village of East Barsham, Norfolk - only six miles from the coast- long beaches and salt flats on the coastline are ideal for bird watching, boating, cycling and walking. The nearest town is Fakenham, three miles away. There is ample off street parking for guests' vehicles at The Old School.

Local activities include bird watching, cycling [the National Cycle Route is nearby], walking and visiting nearby towns such as:

• Norwich - one of the UK's top shopping venues
• Fakenham, Swaffham, North Walsham and Dereham - market towns

Of historical interest are Sandringham, Kings Lynn, Churches, Round Tower Churches, Cathedrals and Walsingham - 'England's Nazareth', just 2 miles away.

Visit one of the local railways - the North Norfolk Railway or the Wells to Walsingham Railway.

At the sea a number of attractions are on offer such as swimming, boating, sub-aqua diving, fishing, Cromer Pier, Lifeboat stations and museums.

The popular Thursford collection is within easy reach of The Old School.
