Greycroft Bed and Breakfast offers an excellent standard of B&B accommodtaion in the hamlet of The Raise, a short walk from Alston in Cumbria.
The B&B is conveniently placed for exploring the North Pennines, an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', and is close to the shops, pubs and restaurants in Alston.
With open views across the South Tyne Valley towards Cross Fell, Greycroft is nestled amongst Cumbria's mountainous areas.
Guests can enjoy exploring the unspoilt countryside, wooded valleys and historic buildings around Alston before returning to the warm hospitality offered at Greycroft B&B.
Accommodation
Accommodation at Greycroft B&B is offered in one of two ground floor bedrooms, both of which have en-suite facilities and have wheelchair access.
The bedrooms are furnished with a double and single bed, and can accommodate up to three guests.
Each room is decorated to a high standard, and tea and coffee making facilities are provided.
There are soft cotton sheets, electric blankets, easy chairs and televisions provided in both bedrooms.
B&B guests are invited to use the large and comfortable guest lounge, which overlooks the hills surrounding Alston.
The lounge also looks out onto the B&B garden, which is home to red squirrels and a variety of birds, including some woodpeckers, pheasant and falcons.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is served every morning in the sunny dining room.
Guests are served an award-winning Cumbrian breakfast with homemade bread.
For lunchtime and evening dining, Alston offers a range of dining options, many of which are within easy walking distance of the B&B accommodation.
Location
The hamlet of The Raise, and the adjacent village of Alston, are situated in the heart of the North Pennines, 20 miles east of Penrith.
Alston is easily accessible from junction 40 of the M6 motorway.
From the M6, head towards Penrith along the A66 road for a short distance, and turn off to join the A686 road.
The A686 road leads to the centre of Alston.
Leisure
Attractions to Alston include the South Tynedale Narrow Gauge Railway, the Gossipgate Gallery and the Thortegill Tearooms, Waterfalls and Forge.
Alston Market Square was the setting for the film versions of Jane Eyre and Oliver Twist, and the area around Alston has also has also been used as the setting for some Catherine Cookson films.
Hadrian's Wall is a short distance from Greycroft Bed and Breakfast, and Hartside Pass, offering views over the Eden Valley to the Lake District, is also within easy reach.
Walkers will appreciate the rugged countryside and many footpaths that run through the area - the Pennine Way is a short drive from the B&B and passes over Crossfell at the highest point of the Pennines.
