General Details
Tallet is an old Somerset word meaning hayloft and so the name of this cottage reflects its original purpose.
It was converted from a bakehouse and hayloft in 1995 and today provides modern self catering accommodation.
Many original features have been preserved, including a stone staircase, flagstone flooring, the bakehouse oven door and an inglenook fireplace.
Adjacent to Clanville Manor, a farmhouse bed and breakfast, The Tallet is situated within a countryside farm. This secluded setting is idyllic and peaceful, but the busy town of Castle Cary is just 2 miles away.
Accommodation
The maximum occupancy is five people and there are two bedrooms:
Double bedded room [plus additional child's bed if required].
Children's room [for two children] with full sized bunk beds.
Perfect for families with young children, the cottage is equipped with stair gates at both the top and bottom of the staircase, along with a cot, travel cot and high chair.
The bathroom has a power shower over a small bath.
The kitchen provides all of the essential modern facilities. It is equipped with:
- Full sized oven
- Microwave
- Dishwasher
- Freezer
- Kettle and toaster
A washing machine and tumble drier are also available in the farmhouse utility room.
There is a 'real flame' oil stove in the inglenook fireplace, which provides a cosy way to heat the downstairs, as well as heating the upstairs radiators and hot water. All electricity is included in your rent.
There is also a cupboard full of children's toys and board games, a colour television and video recorder - both with remote control.
The back door of the property opens onto a stone terrace and the walled garden is the perfect place to relax in fine weather.
Food and Drink
Local food is available - and before visiting Somerset, the owners of this cottage can help you to order provisions so that they are ready in the fridge or freezer prior to your arrival.
A complimentary tray of tea and homemade cake is prepared for cottage guests upon arrival, and a small sample of local foods or drink is also available depending on the season.
In Castle Cary there are good quality butchers, delicatessens and shops including a wonderful store selling home-made dishes and treats to take away - give the cook a holiday too!
Further variety is provided by the Chinese take away, a fish and chip shop, a Thai restaurant and other pubs and restaurants within the locality.
Location
For directions, please see the Clanville Manor web site [link at top of this page].
The cottage is in a rural location about a mile from Castle Cary railway station [on the B3153 road].
Public transport is sometimes erratic, taxis are expensive and hard to find - so it is highly recommended that you have your own car to explore the area fully.
Leisure
During the warmer months a private outdoor swimming pool is available for guests.
The farm encompasses a pond, an orchard, several fields, beech and horse chestnut trees [conker hunting is optional!] and in summer there are often new born calves and chicks.
As the ground can often be wet or muddy, good shoes or wellies are recommended!
Prices
£180.00 to £550.00 per week, including electricity, hot water and heating.
A full tariff and availability chart is shown on the Clanville Manor web site.
During school holidays bookings are normally only taken for full weeks. Short breaks of 2 or more nights are available at other times.
Other Information
Please note that smoking is not permitted inside the cottage.

Bed linen [except cot bedding] and towels [except swimming towels] are provided.
Please bring towels if you will be using the outdoor pool at Clanville Manor farmhouse. The pool is shared with B&B guests and Lone Oak Cottage guests, so a 'rota' system will apply when all accommodation is full, so that everyone can be sure of private time in the pool!
