South Winchester Lodges

Situated in the centre of a championship golf course, South Winchester Lodges offer self-catering accommodation for four to six people in Norwegian Log Cabins.

The lodges have contemporary furnishings throughout and have achieved a coveted five star rating for self-catering accommodation by England's official quality assessment scheme.

Surrounded by ancient woodlands in the South Downs countryside, the holiday lodges have a peaceful location only two miles from the historical city of Winchester.

The South Coast and The New Forest National Park are within easy reach and offer a variety of attractions.

With access to the driving range, 18 hole course and a private putting green, the lodges are ideal for golf enthusiasts looking for convenient and varied play.

Whether it be for a golfing break, home relocation, special occasion or a family holiday, these self-catering lodges will suit the occasion perfectly.

The lodges provide accommodation for either four people [in properties with two bedrooms] or six people [in properties with three bedrooms].

Each lodge has two bathrooms, which are fitted with a bath with overhead shower, toilet and wash basin - 'Plus Lodges' offer the added luxury of a hot tub on the balcony.

The spacious open-plan living / dining areas are furnished with a dining table, sofa, LCD flat screen television, and DVD and CD sound systems for entertainment - plus a 'Freeview' digibox.

The kitchen in every lodge is fully equipped, with:

• Microwave
• Fridge
• Dishwasher
• Washing machine

The living room opens out onto a large, covered balcony with outdoor table.

Guests can dine overlooking their own private putting green [golf balls and putters provided], and the golf course and surrounding Hampshire countryside.

South Winchester Lodges have achieved a five star rating with the tourist board for self catering accommodation and have recently attained a highly commended award at the 2006 and 2007 Tourism ExSEllence Awards for Tourism South East.

The restaurant and bar at the Winchester Golf Course club house are open to guests at Country Retreats.

Winchester is a short drive from the lodges and has a good range of amenities, including supermarkets and a range of restaurants, bars and pubs.

The Hampshire countryside also has a wealth of traditional country pubs, most of which serve a variety of traditional pub food throughout the day.

Country Retreats is an excellent residential venue for small conferences and seminars, with conference facilities in Winchester Golf Club's Granary Barn and catering in the club house restaurant.

The three lodges provide accommodation for up to 18 conference guests, and extra accommodation can be arranged nearby.

A variety of leisure or team-building activities can also be arranged nearby, including golf tuition, quad biking, paintballing, archery and canoeing.

South Winchester Golf Course is situated on the north western edge of the South Downs off Junction 11 of the M3, 3 miles south of Winchester and 13 miles north east of Southampton.

Driving directions

Guests travelling along the M3 southbound [towards Southampton], should exit at Junction 11 and turn right at the traffic lights at the bottom of the slip road. At the next set of traffic lights, turn left just after passing under the motorway and continue on this road until you get to a roundabout, at which you should turn right.

Guests travelling northbound [towards London] along the M3 should also exit at Junction 11 and go straight over the roundabout at the end of the slip road.

Further instructions are the same for both directions:

From the next roundabout, follow signs to Oliver's Battery and go straight over the roundabout at the top of the hill.

At the next large roundabout, take the first exit to your left and follow the road until you can turn left into South Winchester Golf Club.

Follow the road down towards the club house and take the right after the speed hump signposted to ‘South Winchester Lodges’.

This road will take you across the golf course and you will pass through a small wooded area. The site will be ahead of you.

Golfing

Winchester Golf Course is a 7086 yard, par 72, 18 hole championship course set in 200 acres of Hampshire countryside.

The course is built on free draining chalkdown land and offers a challenge to golfers of all abilities in a peaceful setting. Guests receive special rates on green fees, and can arrange group or individual instruction with the resident PGA Golf Professional Laurence Ross.

There is an 8 bay, covered driving range and short game practice facilities. Arrangements have been made with other top courses in the area to provide guests with varied golfing opportunities, all within 30 minutes drive of the lodges.

Other Attractions

Hampshire has many attractions, most of which are easily accessible from the lodges via the M3 motorway.

Winchester, Southampton and Portsmouth are all within easy reach and offer a variety of leisure activities and points of interest.

The area surrounding Winchester offers many walking and wildlife watching opportunities in the South Downs and New Forest National Park, and Marwell Zoological Park is just 6 miles south.

Visitors to Winchester can explore the mediaeval city wall and Winchester Cathedral, and Southampton and Portsmouth both have recently built large shopping complexes.

For guests interested in watersports, The Solent is known for its many sailing centres that offer waterskiing and sailing opportunities.

The Isle of Wight ferry also sails from Southampton for those wishing to explore the island, and the sandy beaches of Bournemouth are under one hour's drive from the lodges.

Weekly rental - £360.00 to £850.00 per week depending on season and size of lodge.

Mid-week short break - £288.00 to £665.00 between Monday and Friday.

Weekend short break - £237.00 to £564.00 between Friday and Monday.

Lodges are supplied with bed linen and towels, which is included in the rental price, and guests are provided with a welcome pack containing fresh flowers, a fruit basket, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits on arrival.

Wireless internet access is available for guests with laptop computers [small service charge applies].

Children welcome - cots and highchairs are available on request.
