General Details
This holiday rental property is within easy reach of Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury, Salisbury, Wells and all of the main Somerset attractions.
Lone Oak Cottage is only 2 miles from the busy town of Castle Cary, although the nearest neighbours are half a mile away!
Named after the oak tree in the field behind, the cottage was built about 50 years ago.
Originally home to Clanville Manor farm's herdsman, the internal accommodation is modern and comfortable.
You can walk, have a picnic or play football in the fields behind and to the side of the property - as long as the farm's beef herd are not grazing there!
Accommodation
Lone Oak is fairly plain from the outside, but what it may lack in external character it more than makes up for with spacious internal accommodation.
There are new double glazed windows throughout and most furniture inside the property is new.
The separate living room has a colour television, a video and a cosy fire.
The large kitchen/dining room is fitted with modern equipment [all new] and appliances including:
- Rayburn - runs the central heating
- Electric oven and microwave
- Dishwasher and fridge freezer
New carpets, curtains, beds, towels and bedding all add to the comfort! A utility room contains a washing machine and dryer.
As this is a bungalow, it is suitable for those with slight disabilities [Level M1 in English Tourism Council grading].
There are three bedrooms, a double [with 5 foot bed], a double [with 4 foot 6 bed and patio doors to the back garden] and a twin [with two 3 foot beds].
The shower room includes a large power shower with thermostatic temperature control.
Furnishing and equipment are to the same 4 star standard as The Tallet Holiday Cottage on the same farm [and with the same owners].
Food and Drink
Local food is available - and before visiting Somerset, the owners of this cottage can help you to order provisions so that they are ready in the fridge or freezer prior to your arrival.
A complimentary tray of tea and homemade cake is prepared for cottage guests upon arrival, and a small sample of local foods or drink is also available depending on the season.
In Castle Cary there are good quality butchers, delicatessens and shops including a wonderful store selling home-made dishes and treats to take away - give the cook a holiday too!
Further variety is provided by the Chinese take away, a fish and chip shop, a Thai restaurant and other pubs and restaurants within the locality.
Location
Lone Oak Cottage is situated on its own in a field - just across the road from the entrance to Clanville Manor's drive. For directions, please see the Clanville Manor web site [link at top of this page].
The cottage is in a rural location about a mile from Castle Cary railway station [on the B3153 road].
Public transport is sometimes erratic, taxis are expensive and hard to find - so it is highly recommended that you have your own car to explore the area fully.
