Feeling Sheepish In Muker Tea Shop!
I am sitting in a comfy chair listening to the murmured discussion of cyclists and walkers that have staggered to this traditional Yorkshire tea shop in need of a refreshing brew.
The old clock on the wall counts down the seconds it will take for temptation to crack my healthy resolve and I tuck in to the assortment of cakes, preserves and chutneys on offer.
A giggle issues from the corner, in which a group of locals have huddled to discuss what I assume must be the villages most recent and astounding event There is a sheep on the roof of the woollen shop!
A sheep on the roof? But surely its supposed to be IN the woollen shop, not on it?!
A rebellious ewe is indeed standing on top of the shop in all its carved, wooden glory - it is just a statue!
Excitement allayed, only tractors, the smiles and nods of locals, and the occasional fluorescent walker interrupt my thoughts until a fresh pot of rich coffee is delivered to the next table.
I cannot stand it anymore and place my order a pot of tea and a large slice of cake. Well, I am on holiday...
With my sweet-tooth satisfied and belly full, I sit back and let the soft chatter of contented patrons fill my ears, safe in the knowledge that relaxation and a delicious array of further refreshment is the order of the day...
And if I don't want to leave, there are beds upstairs...
