Creag-Ard House is a beautiful Victorian property set amongst some of the most magnificent scenery in Scotland, in the peace and tranquillity of The Trossachs.

The house has been expertly refurbished to reflect all of its former glory and has spectacular views over Loch Ard, a mile from the village of Aberfoyle.

The mountain range that can be seen the distance includes the majestic Ben Lomond.

Cread-Ard nestles in 2.5 acres of natural gardens - the rhododendrons and azaleas in the grounds are beautiful, particularly at the end of May.

There is a large breakfast room / lounge for guests to relax in and, of course, from which to enjoy the views.

All bedrooms have private en-suite bathrooms.

A choice of double or twin rooms is available, each with tea and coffee making facilities.

There is no television at Creag-Ard House - the mountains block the reception!

Each morning you can enjoy a full Scottish breakfast in the dining room, with something to suit all appetites, including:

~ Real oatmeal porridge ~ fresh fruits ~ home-made baking fresh every morning ~ the finest Aberdeen smoked haddock ~ the local butcher's home-made sausages and haggis ~ and one of our guests' favourites, scrambled eggs with the best oak-smoked salmon.

A good choice of vegetarian and vegan food is also offered.

Although Creag-Ard does not provide an evening meal there are many excellent places to eat in this area - hosts Cara and David will be happy to recommend one.

Approached by a private drive, Creag-Ard is just 1 mile from the village of Aberfoyle, with its shops, restaurants and coffee shops.

The towns of Callander [15 minutes drive], Stirling [30 minutes] and Edinburgh [1 hour] are within easy reach.

Leisure

Creag-Ard House has its own private wild trout fishing on Loch Ard - guests can fish free of charge from the bank or, for a nominal fee, take out the boat to gain greater access to the loch.

Superb salmon and sea trout fishing can be enjoyed on the Rivers Forth and Teith - tickets can be arranged with prior notice.

If your penchant is for large, hard fighting rainbow trout, Lake Menteith [the only lake in Scotland] is just 5 minutes away.

Red deer, roe deer and other and wildlife is abundant in the dense forests and on the mountains. Accompanied deer stalking and all types of game shooting can be arranged, but please book in advance.

For sailing and canoeing enthusiasts, you can bring your own small boat [sorry no outboards] and use the launching and landing facilities of the house, free of charge. There is also a superb water sports centre at the top of the loch.

Aberfoyle, just 5 minutes away, boasts a magnificent 18 hole golf course with a recently enlarged 19th hole where refreshments are served! Just a quick word with the Club Secretary the day before will ensure a game as visitors are made most welcome.

Other activities available include:

  • Cycling along specially designated cycle ways and tracks
  • Walking - from a stroll around the loch to a 20 mile hike
  • Climbing
  • Bird watching - eagles, woodpeckers, water fowl
  • Pony trekking and horse riding

Over the mountains behind the house, just 20 minutes drive, is the lovely Loch Katrine with its magnificent vintage steamer, the 'Sir Walter Scott', on which you can take a leisurely cruise, and enjoy the unique views seen only from this serene loch.

The area has an abundance of abbeys, cathedrals, historic houses and castles to explore as well as magnificent gardens to visit. There is so much to see and do in this area, it is amazing that so many people just pass it by - at least you know something about it now!
