Highlander Inn Hotel

This well known and popular local Inn is located in the centre of the village of Craigellachie.

Craigellachie and Speyside, in the north east of Scotland, are at the very heart of the Malt Whisky Trail.

The Highlander Inn is also within easy reach of the Moray coast, Inverness, Loch Ness, Deeside and Aberdeen.

Run by Duncan Elphick, with Tatsuya Minagawa hosting the bar, The Highlander Inn offers well-appointed bed and breakfast accommodation.

With its warm, friendly and relaxing atmosphere, this is a really cosy and hospitable 'home from home'.

Downstairs there is the Whisky Bar, outdoor patio, and the 'Club' games room - with pool, darts, and television for major sporting events.

At street level are the newly refurbished a la carte restaurant and lounge - with a real log fire burning in the winter evenings.

The balcony of the lounge overlooks the park, The Speyside Way, and the River Spey.

In line with Scottish law, the whole premisis [except the outdoor patio and lounge balcony] are designated non-smoking.

Traditional live music is often on offer at The Highlander Inn at weekends.

The five bedrooms have recently been improved.

The chef takes great pride in the natural cooking of local specialities - for example game, beef, salmon and Moray Firth sea food. A vegetarian selection is also offered.

The bar was recently chosen as a 'Great Whisky Bar of The World' by Whisky Magazine, and hosts a selection of over 150 single Malt Whiskies.

There is also a varied choice of cask ales, and bar meals are served daily.

The Highlander Inn is situated in the village of Craigellachie, right on The Speyside Way walking route, and on the banks of the picturesque River Spey.

Craigellachie lies in the Moray and Grampian region, close to the border with the Highland district and its capital, Inverness.

The main A95 [Aviemore to Keith road], and the A941 [Elgin to Rynie road] intersect at Craigellachie.

Scotland is the home of golf and every county has an abundance of courses. However, they don't come much better than the courses of Moray.

A golfing package is available covering 10 different courses, from seaside links on the coast to unique inland courses with challenges of their own.

The Castle Trail takes you on a historical journey through some of the most breath-taking scenery in the country.

The Malt Whisky Trail
Whisky lovers, experts and novices, are very well catered for as Speyside has more than half of all distilleries in Scotland! The Speyside Cooperage, situated in the village, gives you the opportunity to see how a cask is made and how it relates to the importance of the finished product. Whisky is Scotland's most famous premium quality export.

Whisky Festivals
The Speyside area is host to two celebrations of whisky each year, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival in the last weekend of April, and the Dufftown Whisky Festival at the end of September.

The Speyside Way is close at hand for the enthusiastic walker, and passes the hotel car park. Starting at Port Gordon in the north it continues south west for 84 miles through the valleys of the Spey and Glenlivet to Aviemore.

A specially devised package to suit walkers is available, which includes transportation to and from pick-up points. Off road mountain bike tracks are also numerous in the area.

Around Craigellachie, there are a number of vantage points at which to sit and marvel at the beautiful views over the River Spey.

There is also a play park for children where a path leads to the famous single span Thomas Telford bridge, completed in 1814 and recently floodlit.

The Greenhall Gallery has a superb collection of local works of art.
