For dining out slightly further afield, Campbeltown is a short 5 minute journey away by car, bus or taxi, and has a variety of restaurants to suit almost every taste.
Location
Machrihanish is situated on the south western tip of the famous Mull of Kintyre peninsula in Argyll [the traditional name for the area is Argyll and Bute].
Kilgour House is the closest B&B to the club house at Machrihanish Golf Club, 5 miles from Campbeltown.
Directions By Car - Kilgour House is approximately 3 hours drive from Glasgow along the A83 road, which is one of the most beautiful and scenic drives in Scotland.
Directions By Car and Ferry - Take the Ardrossan to Brodick [on the Isle of Arran] ferry, then a short drive to the seasonal Lochranza to Claonaig [on the Mull of Kintyre] ferry.
Directions By Bus - There is a regular bus service which runs from Glasgow along the A83 road and takes approximately 4 hours.
Directions By Air - There are two flights every week day from Glasgow Airport to Campbeltown Airport. The flight time is roughly 25 minutes and transfers from and to the airport can be arranged with Kilgour House prior to your arrival.
Leisure
With its peaceful farmland, wild cliffs, moorland, forests, sandy beaches, historical castles and forts, the countryside surrounding Machrihanish offers a variety of different environments to explore.
Activities available in the area include horse riding, playing tennis, green bowling, sailing, surfing, sea angling, loch and river fishing for trout, unlimited walking, hiking and cycling, and, of course, golfing at any of the three golf courses in the area, including the Machrihanish Golf Club.
Machrihanish Golf Club offers traditional links golfing with a variety of challenging shots. Green fees are reasonable, with weekly and fortnightly concessions.
There is also a popular 9 hole golf course at Machrihanish Golf Club and two practice grounds.
Campbeltown, the commercial centre of the region, offers the amenities you would expect to find in a small fishing port town, including a newly built swimming pool and library complex.
