Kirkton House is a converted 18/19th century farmstead built around an attractive courtyard.
It has an elevated position, above the village of Cardross, and has a panoramic view of the river Clyde.
This is an ideal location for visitors to Glasgow, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs.
Hosts Stewart and Gillian Macdonald offer friendly but unobtrusive, personal service to guests.
The public rooms have their original stone walls and rustic fireplaces - one with an authentic 'swee' for hanging the cooking pots.
The residents lounge, with open fire on chilly evenings, has a varied selection of books, magazines, games, postcards and touring information.
Kirkton House has an 'Internet Cafe' allowing guests to send and receive e-mail messages and view internet pages from the comfort of the lounge - plus wireless internet access throughout for guests with laptop computers.
Accolades and recommendations include the highest possible rating of 'Five Star - Guest Accommodation' from the AA.
Accommodation
There are six guest bedrooms offering a choice of double, twin, or family accommodation.
All rooms are very well equipped and have private en-suite facilities, with bath and / or shower.
Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, one of which is suitable for a wheelchair with assistance.
Food and Drink
Guests are offered a 'welcome' hot drink in the lounge on the afternoon of their arrival.
Each morning an extensive Scottish Breakfast is prepared to order. Breakfast time is flexible to allow for flight times or those that prefer a 'lie in'!
Vegetarian and other dietary needs can be catered for - please advise when booking.
Location
The north Clyde village of Cardross is only 18 miles west of Glasgow and 15 miles from Glasgow Airport - less than 30 minutes easy drive even for those on the wrong side of the road!
The Clyde submarine base at Faslane is just 8 miles away.
The car journey to Glasgow takes about 35 minutes, or you could use the half hourly train service that operates to Cardross Station [about 1 mile away].
If arriving by train please note that there is no taxi/telephone at Cardross Station - if you want a courtesy car to collect you please let Kirkton House know which train you are on!
Leisure
The local area has myriad scenic, historical and architectural points of interest, providing a variety of touring possibilities.
The 12th Century Kirkton Chapel is at the end of the drive and Rennie Macintosh's Hill House is 4 miles away above Helensburgh - a must for design buffs!
There are pleasant walks in the immediate countryside - one at the top of the local valley commands a spectacular view of Loch Lomond.
Loch Lomond International Golf Course is just 15 minutes drive away - unfortunately, access is restricted to Members only, and to spectator ticket holders for Professional events and tournaments. The local golf courses are excellent - usually open to visitors on Monday to Friday.
Glasgow, with its rich cultural and commercial interests is easily accessed.
