This Grade II listed building is part of a Georgian Terrace and situated in the suburb of Stockbridge, in the heart of Edinburgh.
Mary's Place has splendid period features, having been built in 1829 as part of John Learmonth's estate and named after his daughter.
The guest house, with vegetarian food a speciality, is only 10 minutes from the city centre and a short walk or bus ride from all the major tourist attractions and festival venues.
The delightful garden at Six Mary's Place is exclusively for guests to use, and there is a very pleasant outlook from every window.
It is sometimes hard to remember that this location is right in the heart of the city, when enjoying the tranquillity it offers.
This comfortable and friendly house has a relaxed atmosphere and genuine hospitality.
The spacious guest lounge is situated on the ground floor of the house and has further Georgian features.
Accommodation
There are single, twin and double rooms, recently re-decorated to the highest standard. All bedrooms are fully en-suite, bar one [which has a private bathroom] and have Internet connection points as well as television and telephone.
The Georgian features have been complemented with a new colour scheme, imaginative lighting and a mix of contemporary and period furniture.
If required cots, extra beds and a baby-sitting service can be provided.
Food and Drink
Home cooked vegetarian breakfasts are served in the large conservatory which overlooks the garden. Alternatively a continental breakfast buffet is available from the breakfast bar.
Breakfast in this room is a perfect way to start the day, served to guests as one large 'family' so there is plenty of opportunity to meet other people.
Location
The house is centrally located, on the fringe of Edinburgh's world-renowned New Town.
Six Mary's Place can be easily reached from the city centre - simply head for George Street and catch the C23 [green mini bus] or 19A, 24, 28, 36 [Lothian Transport maroon bus].
Both stop at Raeburn Place, 50 metres from the guest house.
Taxis are easy to find and the fare from Princes Street is reasonable.
Leisure
The area which includes Stockbridge has an excellent range of restaurants, pubs and antique shops.
The attractions of Edinburgh are well known and Stockbridge is particularly well-placed for visiting the city and nearby Botanic Gardens.
Museums to visit include The National Museum of Scotland, which exhibits stunning architecture and the fascinating history of the country.
At The National Gallery of Scotland there are works of the finest art, including an annual showing of the Turner Watercolours in Spring.
