Inveresk House Bed and Breakfast

Inveresk House provides a high standard of accommodation in a small conservation village close to Edinburgh.

This historic building is situated in three acres of grounds containing a mature woodland with many specimen trees.

Inveresk House has a long and fascinating history - for example, Oliver Cromwell made it his headquarters for about two months, while his troops were camped in Musselburgh. The neighbourhood houses were destroyed but Inveresk remained intact.

The interior boasts many fine features, including a large entrance hallway and 18th Century stone and platt staircase, with attractive balustrade and dark wooden panelling.

The drawing room and dining room both have large bowed fronts with triple windows overlooking the garden.

Both rooms are on a grand scale and have fine period fireplaces, splendid plasterwork and stripped wooden floors.

The bedrooms are furnished with period furniture, chintz curtains and have plain painted walls hung with an interesting art collection. Each room has a colour television, plus tea and coffee making facilities.

The two ground floor bedrooms have private bathrooms adjacent, with modern electric showers fitted over the baths. These bedrooms are located in a private hall and are ideal for group of four people.

The first floor bedroom can accommodate up to four people [ideal for families] and has a private hallway and its own bathroom - featuring a bath with modern shower over and toilet facilities.

A full breakfast is provided at the start of each day, served in the elegant dining room. You can choose to have dinner at Inveresk House, but this must be pre-booked as only the best produce available is used.

Inveresk House is not licensed, however you can bring in your own wine and other alcoholic beverages and they will happily provide the glasses for which there will be no corkage charge.

Musselburgh has a good choice of pubs and restaurants including Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Thai, Fish and Chips and many others. The resident proprietors will be happy to provide advice on where best to eat.

Inveresk village is situated on the outskirts of Musselburgh, just two miles from the Edinburgh city boundary.

It is also seven miles from Edinburgh city centre and Waverley Station.

For those who need public transportation, there are numerous bus services serving the Musselburgh/Inveresk area.

The village of Inveresk is a conservation village with an interesting and varied collection of houses and cottages. The National Trust owns the Inveresk Lodge Walled Garden which is open to the public.

The Musselburgh sports centre, complete with its swimming pool and fitness rooms, is just three minutes walk from Inveresk House. Musselburgh town centre is less than a mile north of the village and here you will find a race track and golf course [the real home of golf!].

The river Esk, complete with its swans and ducks, flows through the town and has attractive banks and bridges. The famous Loretto Public School is also located here.

Musselburgh is right on the doorstep of both East Lothian, with its picturesque villages, beaches and 17 golf courses to explore, and Edinburgh with numerous attractions and places to see.
