This hotel has an excellent location on the Isle of Skye, and offers excellent bed and breakfast accommodation and a traditional Scottish Highland welcome to guests.

Edinbane, Isle of Skye Hotel Accommodation - The Lodge Hotel Side View

There were three stops between Portree and Dunvegan and during this period The Lodge became the first place on the island to dispense alcohol legally.

In its lifetime the estate has been extended, landscaped and modernised many times and the gardens are now returned to their former glory.

The Lodge Hotel - Isle of Skye Hotel Accomodation

The upheavals of the past have led to many ghostly legends, although the house is not thought to be haunted.

There is a bar and a residents' lounge, both with cosy open fires.

Location

The Lodge Hotel Accommodation Isle of Skye - Local Riverside Walks

The village of Edinbane is at the head of Loch Greshornish, in the northern part of Skye. It is 14 miles from Portree, 8 miles from Dunvegan and 48 miles from the bridge over to the mainland.

The village can be found just off the Portree to Dunvegan road, the A850.

The A850 runs from the bridge onto the Isle, through Broadford, Portree and on to Dunvegan.

Leisure

The Lodge Hotel - Traditional Music in the Bar

Many pleasant walks can be taken from the hotel's front door - either around the gardens, in the nearby village, alongside the loch or river, or higher up in the forest.

Guests can often enjoy traditional live music in the hotel's bar.

For larger groups [4 or more people] a local story teller can be arranged, as can trips around Skye - with a highly experienced guide who has a vast knowledge, of both the local history and of the flora and fauna.

Dunvegan Castle [the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland] and its beautiful walled gardens are only 10 minutes away from the hotel. The Castle organises boat trips around the surrounding islands and to see the local seal colony.

A short distance north of Dunvegan Castle is Clagain, a coral beach with creamy white sand.

South of Dunvegan is the Isle's only whisky distillery - Talisker is beautifully sited on the shore of a remote sea loch on the west of the island. While visiting Talisker you can take a detour to glen Brittle and walk along another beautiful beach to admire the Cuillin Mountains.

St Columbus Island is at Skeabost - a place as tranquil as it is mysterious, with tombs from the crusades to be discovered here.

Other adventures and activities include:

  • Day and half-day boat charters from Staffin Bay
  • Taking the 'Bella Jane' to Loch Coruisk at the foot of the Cuillins
  • Taking the ferry from Uig to the outer islands
  • Angling at Storr Lochs with permits available in Portree
  • Sea fishing trips
  • Touring along roads with unrivalled scenery

Walkers gain access to spectacular views, sunsets and waterfalls - the Old Man of Storr is a famous landmark whilst the Lealt Falls are also a popular attraction.
