Coach House

Close to the centre of Edinburgh, The Coach House B&B dates back to around 1815.

Originally used for horses and a carriage, the house has been converted into a warm and welcoming home by owners Jennifer and Nick Guise.

Only 15 minutes walk or a five minute bus ride from Princes Street, Dean Bank Lane is a quiet street in Stockbridge village, a fashionable part of Edinburgh full of interesting shops, cafes, restaurants, parks and riverside walks.

The house is very private and secluded, separated from the street by a long walled garden which is attractively lit at night.

An added advantage is the safe off-street parking available for guests bringing their car to Edinburgh.

Located in a side wing of the house, the guest bedroom has its own separate front door and B&B guests have their own key to the door and to the garden gate.

The bedroom is situated on the ground floor and is attractively furnished, homely, light, and freshly decorated.

The window has a pleasant view of the mews garden.

There are two single beds in the bedroom, which is well equipped with:

• Private shower room with toilet opposite
• Colour television and radio alarm
• Hairdryer
• Fresh milk and cooled water
• Tea and coffee making facilities

A trouser press can be provided if required.

Off the private shower room there is a sauna which is available for an extra charge.

For guests staying on Friday or Saturday nights, a substantial breakfast can be provided the following morning.

Breakfast options include porridge, cereals, home-made bread, toast, flapjacks, fresh fruit and yoghurt. To drink there is freshly made tea or ground coffee, with fruit juice.

For guests staying on other nights, accommodation is normally offered on room only basis, although breakfast may be available by arrangement.

There are three very good places at the end of the street serving breakfast from early morning - a French patisserie, a bistro and a coffee bar [Starbucks].

On-street parking is free overnight and at weekends, ticketed parking is available in the lane during the day. Free daytime parking is available five minutes walk away.

Alternatively, you can take advantage of the safe off-street parking available to guests on request.

Travelling by car from any direction, follow the signs to the town centre and then to Stockbridge.

If you are arriving by train, the B&B is a short taxi ride [approximately 10 minutes] from Waverley Station. Edinburgh Airport is eight miles away, and journey time to the airport is around 20 minutes by taxi.

Within two minutes walk of the house, there is an indoor swimming pool with a small gym, saunas and a creche. At the end of the street is the local Theatre Workshop, a popular venue during the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival.

A pleasant five minute stroll away are the world-famous Botanical Gardens, and one of Edinburgh's largest parks. The riverside walk can be taken up to the West End of town, or to the Modern Art Galleries.

An interesting option is to use the mountain bikes available free of charge. These have proved very popular with some guests and provide a different way in which to explore the city and surrounding area.

Jennifer and Nick always try to help guests to make the most of their stay in Edinburgh. Nick even plays the bagpipes and is happy to give a demonstration of the instrument and how it is played if guests are interested.

For those who would like to see a bit more of Scotland, Gray Line Coaches can pick guests up at the end of the street for full day, half-day and evening tours.
