General Details
Old Fishergate House is one of the oldest houses in St Andrews - dating from about 1650, situated in the old fisherman's area of the town.
At one time the residence housed five families, but now after many alterations over the years it is a large home belonging to Angus and Jennifer Mitchell.
Beautifully restored with many period details kept intact, this building has a welcoming charm and is a haven from the bustling world outside.
Old Fishergate House is a member of The Scottish Tourist Board and has the grading of 4 Stars for Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
Accommodation
There are 2 twin bedded rooms, each with a delightful private sitting room, en-suite facilities, radio alarm clock and TV.
Other features of the bedrooms are individual furnishing and recent decoration, internet access (Wifi broadband connection - ideal for guests who have their own laptop computers), hairdryer and tea or coffee making facilities.
Guests will also find an iron and ironing board in their accommodation, full central heating, a selection of books magazines and a hot towel rail in the bathroom.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is served in the cosy dining room and early breakfasts can be arranged if required.
Guests can choose from a varied menu, cooked to order - for example a full Scottish breakfast or a Continental selection of cheeses and cold meats.
For other meals, the town has plenty of fine restaurants, pubs and cafes - Angus and Jennifer will be happy to offer their suggestions.
Location
The house is situated in North Castle Street, just 50 metres from the ruins of St Andrews Castle and close to the Cathedral.
The town centre is a few minutes walk away, as is the University, St Salvador's Chapel, the picturesque harbour and a host of other buildings of historical interest.
St Andrews is well served by trains (Leuchars station 3 miles away) and buses (Bus Station in centre of town). It is also ideally located for the airports of Edinburgh (1 hour 15 minutes) and Dundee (20 minutes).
Leisure
The famous Old Course, the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse and the British Golf Museum are within a 10 minute walk. The recently rebuilt Byre Theatre is only 200 metres away and stages some excellent productions.
St Andrews has 5 excellent golf courses, a nine-hole beginners course, a unique putting green (called The Himalayas, for obvious reasons), and a first class driving range and practice area. Many of these are within walking distance, the others only 2 or 3 minutes drive away.
The town still retains its medieval character, although as an internationally-known golfing and university town it has a vibrant mix of students, golfers, visitors and residents.
