This self-catering holiday home offers a superb base for exploring the beautiful Wester Ross countryside on the west coast of northern Scotland.
Tigh Ali [Gaelic for Alick's House] is situated on the shore of Loch Carron in the tiny hamlet of Ardaneaskan.A former Victorian crofter's cottage, it has been modernised to provide comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to 6 people.
Accommodation
The ground floor of the property comprises a lounge, hall, dining room, kitchen and a bathroom with shower. The first floor has 3 bedrooms and a second toilet.
The kitchen provides modern facilities including oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine.
There are 2 traditional open coal fires [coal provided] in the cottage, which is also fitted with electric heaters throughout.
The enclosed walled garden slopes down to the shore of the loch and offers an additional space in which to relax.
Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided for the use of guests.
Food and Drink
Nearby, Lochcarron village offers shops, cafes and restaurants some of which specialise in seafood. Other facilities in Lochcarron include a post office, bank cash-point and garage.
Location
The scenic drive on the A890 road towards the attractive 18th century village of Lochcarron is just a taste of what is to come. Ardaneaskan lies a further 6 miles along the picturesque coastline.
The bridge to the Isle of Skye at Kyle of Lochalsh is about 45 minutes away. The cottage is 200 miles from either Edinburgh or Glasgow, and 70 miles from Inverness.
The cottage is also accessible by a daily rail service from London Kings Cross to Inverness. Twice daily, West Highland trains from Inverness stop at the local Strathcarron station.
If you choose to fly, there are regular flights from London Luton, Gatwick and other airports to Inverness airport - where car hire is also available.
Leisure
The surrounding area is home to a multitude of wildlife, including deer, otters and seals.
It is an excellent place for bird watching, with the chance of spotting a golden eagle.
Apart from exploring the awesome rugged countryside and admiring the spectacular views, there is also a 9 hole golf course, cycle and boat hire and fishing available.
Other local interests include the potteries, weavers, a wood turner and historic buildings such as the famous Eilean Donan castle and visitor centre.
