Oystercatcher - Isle of Islay

Islay is rightly known as the Queen of the Hebrides and retains much of its Gaelic culture. Its long history is seen in the standing stones, Celtic crosses and ancient chapels to be found throughout the island.

Explore the wild west coast cliffs, the long sandy beaches and sheltered bays.

A paradise for bird watchers, Islay has recorded over 250 species and must be one of the best places in Britain to see Golden Eagles and Choughs, to listen to the summer sounds of the Corncrake or see 45,000 winter geese.

Kildalton Cross - Isle of Islay

Many guests at Sgioba Cottage enjoy walking and fishing, or golf at the 18 hole links course at the Machrie.

Many more visit one of the eight operational whisky distilleries on the island or take a day trip to the neighbouring islands of Jura and Colonsay.
