Burnside House Cottage, Elphin - Mountain Views, Sutherland

This spacious holiday cottage in Sutherland [north east of Ullapool] offers self-catering accommodation for up to 10 people.

Located in one of the last truly wild landscapes in Europe, it is surrounded by beautiful Scottish countryside.

From the property you can look out upon the sandstone mountain peaks of Suilven, Canisp and Cul Mor.

There are also superb views over the Munros of Conival and Ben More Assynt.

Escape to wild Highland country but still have plenty of home comforts!

There are a total of 4 bedrooms - 3 family rooms and 1 double.

Ground Floor Level:

Family room with double bed, small single bed [suitable for a child] and views over the mountains.

Bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and wash basin.

Sitting room with sofa bed, peat-burning open fire, well-stocked bookcase and CD player.

The colour television has access to satellite channels, a video player and a DVD player with a selection of films.

Kitchen / dining room with farmhouse table and chairs, electric cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.

Additional cooking facilities are provided by the solid-fuel Aga, which also powers the efficient central heating system [electric hot water system also provided].

The First Floor features 2 large family bedrooms with great views, plus the double bedroom.

The Alt Bar is the local Inn, where good food and drink are served.

Location

The cottage is located in the pretty hamlet of Elphin in Sutherland, 12 miles north east of Ullapool.

Boat trips around the Summer Isles are possible from the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool, nestled on the shores of Loch Broom about 1 hour north of Loch Ness and Inverness Airport.

From the same port you can take a car ferry to the Western Isles [Outer Hebrides] of Lewis and Harris.

Lochinver is just over 20 miles from Elphin by road.

Leisure

Knockan Crag Holiday Homes are perfect for a walking holiday - there are a number of coastal paths and mountain walks in the locality or within easy reach by car.

The owners can recommend a number of routes to try, some of which are 'dog-friendly'.

Inverpolly is an area of some 40 square miles adjacent to Burnside House Cottage - rare sightings here include golden plover, golden eagle and pine marten.

The Knockan Crag Nature Reserve is within walking distance, with a visitor centre open all year round.

For anglers, the wild brown trout and salmon fishing is superb on the many lochs and rivers of Assynt - with fly fishing lessons available locally in Elphin.

Prices

£295.00 - £595.00 per week, depending on time of year.
Short breaks may also be available - minimum 3 nights - £75.00 per night.
