A modern bungalow in a private and prime location within the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve, Cairn Shiel Cottage is an ideal base from which to tour the North West Highlands.
The cottage has commanding views on all sides and the nature reserve that surrounds it is renowned for its variety of wildlife, magnificent scenery and mountain trails.
From Cairn Shiel, two of Scotland's greatest mountains are within sight - Slioch and Beinn Eighe - with Liathach, Beinn Alligan and the Torridon Mountain Range close by.
Pine Martens visit the holiday cottage regularly - especially when guests feed them! Wild deer sometimes visit the garden. Eagles are often seen in Wester Ross, in particular in the area around Kinlochewe.
The cottage provides accommodation for up to four people, in three bedrooms. A cot for a baby is available on request.
Cairn Shiel Cottage has been awarded 4 stars by the Scottish Tourist Board and it is the only holiday cottage within the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve.
Accommodation
Throughout Cairn Shiel Cottage, the accommodation is on ground floor level, double glazed and warmed by storage heaters.
The comfortable lounge features a picture window overlooking Beinn Eighe, Slioch and the Torridon Mountains.
There is also an attractive fireplace, two large settees and a spacious dining area. The colour television has satellite channels and a video with a good selection of films, and the radio has a cassette and CD player.
Cairn Shiel's spacious master bedroom overlooks Beinn Eighe. The room has a king-size bed, fitted wardrobes, a dressing table and bedside tables.
The two twin bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and good quality furniture.
Cairn Shiel Cottage has a modern bathroom with three piece suite and electric shower over the bath. There is also a 'Downflow' heater and a heated towel rail, plus a further separate toilet with wash basin.
Food and Drink
The well equipped kitchen includes an electric cooker, microwave, fridge / freezer, dishwasher, automatic kettle, filter coffee maker, food mixer and toaster, together with a good range of crockery and cooking utensils.
The cottage has a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Shopping and petrol are available in Kinlochewe Village, approximately half a mile from Cairn Shiel Cottage. The Kinlochewe Hotel is open most of the year, with bar meals available.
Location
Kinlochewe is a picturesque Western Highlands village 10 miles from the Torridon Mountain Range and 20 miles from Gairloch. Inverness is approximately 50 miles away, and Ullapool is 55 miles away.
Leisure
Cairn Shiel Cottage is a short distance from Torridon, Loch Maree, and the numerous sandy beaches and bays around Gairloch, Red Point and Torridon.
Wester Ross [Ross-shire] attractions include whale-watching trips and boat trips to view Viking graves on Loch Maree.
Inland or sea fishing is available and the area is also popular for bird-watching, deer stalking, guided walking, climbing and sea kayaking.
Alternatively try a falconry course, go pony trekking, or visit Inverewe and Attadale Gardens [National Trust owned].
Prices
£195.00 to £495.00 per week, Saturday to Saturday - deposit and retainer requested on booking.
Sheets, pillow cases, bath and hand towels, and tea towels, can be provided at an extra charge.
Electricity is metered and the amount due is deducted from retainer [meter read on arrival and departure].
A deposit of £100.00 per week is requested in advance together with a retainer of £60.00 with the balance payable 6 weeks prior to commencement of holiday.
