General Details
Ballochruin Barn offers a choice of self-catering [or bed and breakfast] accommodation on a working farm on the edge of Balfron Station and close to the villages of Killearn and Balfron.
Situated less than two miles from the Loch Lomond National Park and the West Highland Way, the accommodation overlooks the spectacular Campsie Fells.
The River Endrick skirts the south of the farm and compliments the Barn's peaceful rural location, which is still under one hours drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Guests at Ballochruin are invited to join in with the routine care of the farm's resident alpacas, and there are many fishing, cycling and walking opportunities in the area.
Ballochruin Barn has been awarded with 4 stars by the Scottish Tourist Board.
Accommodation
Accommodation is offered in a newly renovated barn in grounds overlooking the Campsie Fells.
The barn has three en-suite bedrooms and a large kitchen, living and dining area.
All rooms can be rented on a weekly self-catering basis, [or individually, per night, on a bed and breakfast basis].
With natural wood flooring combined with underfloor heating, the Barn is furnished to a high standard and offers excellent, modern accommodation.
Up to six people can stay in the property at any one time. There is one large double bedded room and two large bedrooms that can be used as double or twin accommodation.
All bedrooms have en-suite facilities - one room has a walk-in shower and the other two have a bath and integral shower.
The kitchen is equipped with:
- Electric oven and ceramic hob
- Microwave
- Fridge / freezer
- Dishwasher
There is also a separate laundry room with a washer dryer.
The lounge is furnished with leather sofas and looks out onto a west facing decked area, which benefits from the afternoon and evening sun.
With its plants and garden furniture, the decked area is ideal for outside dining and a barbecue can be provided on request.
Food and Drink
Self-catering guests can buy provisions from many of the nearby shops - Killearn has a choice of supermarkets from which supplies may be bought.
Balfron and Kippen both have delicatessens and butchers offering a range of produce, including delicious home-made steak pies.
There are also a variety of pubs and restaurants in the area that would appeal to any guest [for bed and breakfast guests at Ballochruin, breakfast is served each morning and dinner is available on request].
Balfron is home to an Indian restaurant, Saffron, and the Pirn Inn, and the Old Mill and the Black Bull at Killearn both offer a variety of cuisine.
Slightly further afield, The Inn in Kippen and Culcreich Castle in Fintry also serve delicious food.
Location
Ballochruin Farm is situated on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Parks on the edge of Balfron Station, close to the villages of Killearn and Balfron.
Guests approaching from the south [Glasgow] should follow the A81 road then the A875 road in the direction of Killearn.
From the north, the A811 road from Stirling also links to the A875 road, which should be followed in the direction of Balfron.
Although it has a rural setting, the accommodation is only 18 miles north of Glasgow along the A81 road and 58 miles west of Edinburgh via Stirling.
Stirling itself is also 20 miles from the accommodation and Aberfoyle is just 9 miles north, making Ballochruin Barn the ideal location from which to explore Scotland.
Leisure
As Ballochruin is a working farm, guests are welcome to join in with the routine care of the resident animals and can even have an alpaca eating from their hand!
Other activities in the surrounding area include fishing, tennis at Killearn, cycling and walking.
Because the farm has fishing rights to the River Endrick, guests are invited to take advantage of the best river fishing, which is usually in September and October.
There are two excellent cycle tracks near this accommodation, that can be used to explore parts of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, and for walkers, The West Highland Way is just two miles from the accommodation.
Other attractions to the surrounding area include the country parks at Mugdock and Balloch and the Blair Drummond Safari Park.
Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, and the collection of vintage cars at Doune Motor Museum are all within easy reach of the accommodation.
One of Scotland's most outstanding beauty spots, Queen's View, is also within driving distance of The Barn and offers panoramic views of lake and mountain scenery, sometimes as far as the Glen Coe hills.
