General Details
Glenower House is a spacious self-catering property situated in a quiet location in the conservation village of Craigellachie.
The house was built in 1893 and has retained many of its original features, although it has been modernised and refurbished, now offering accommodation of a high standard.
In addition to the house itself, there is a small summer house. A climbing frame and a child's swing, garden furniture and a barbecue are also provided.
Offering beautiful views over the Spey Valley, Ben Rinnes and Ben Aigen, Glengower House is situated in a third of an acre of an enclosed garden which is mainly laid to lawn. This location is ideal for anyone who enjoys fishing, hiking or peaceful walks.
This self-catering house is available for rent from Sundays to Sundays. There are also 3 day breaks available in the low and mid season.
Accommodation
Glengower House provides accommodation in four large, beautifully furnished bedrooms.
Two of the bedrooms are twins with two single beds each, the other two rooms have king size double beds.
Bed linen is provided in all rooms. Each room also has a wardrobe or a chest of drawers, bedside tables and lamps.
There are two bathrooms, both with shower, toilet and wash basin. The main bathroom also has a traditional large cast iron bathtub.
The kitchen is fully equipped and has a gas fired aga with two ovens. There is a large dining area with a working open fire.
Guests will find a small supply of coal and kindling in the house, additional coal can be purchased at the local garage nearby.
The light and spacious sitting room of Glengower House has an open fire.
This room has TV and DVD, a CD player and a generous supply of books and toys for guests to enjoy.
There is also a snug / study and this has an open working fire and a sofa bed.
There is also a utility room [providing lots of space to keep fishing gear, walking boots or other outdoors equipment] with a washing machine and a tumble dryer.
Food and Drink
Self-catering provisions are available at Craigellachie Petrol Station, in Aberlour and Dufftown. For a greater selection of food, Elgin and Keith are within driving distance of the house and have a selection of large supermarkets as well as a number of restaurants.
There are many pubs and bars in Craigellachie, including the Highlander Inn which has a bar serving over 500 whiskies. The Craigellachie Hotel is also in the village and is a slightly more formal restaurant which serves delicious meals all day.
Location
Glengower House is situated in the village of Craigellachie, two miles from Aberlour, about four miles from Dufftown and 14 miles from Keith and Elgin [Keith and Elgin have good rail links]. If you are travelling from Inverness or Abderdeen take the A96 to Elgin, then follow the A941 south to Craigellachie.
If travelling from Edinburgh or Glasgow, follow the M90 motorway or M9 motorway towards Perth. Next, follow the A9 north for Inverness. At Aviemore junction, take A95 to Craigellachie.
Leisure
Glengower House is ideally situated for guests interested in salmon fishing on the River Spey, which is just a short walk away from the house. This river is also very popular for canoeing.
Mountain biking is also very popular in the area, and Moray is well known for its 'Monster Trails'. The trail located closest to the house is on Ben Aigen, and you can cycle there directly from Glengower House.
The area around Craigellachie is also a haven for wildlife - otters, red squirrels, roe deer and over 50 bird species are regularly sighted. The area also offers many other leisure activities, including golfing and horse riding.
For guests wishing to travel slightly further afield, mountain ski resorts The Lecht and Cairngorm offer excellent skiing opportinities in winter, and great walks in stunning scenery during the summer months.
For guests who would like to have a picnic or take a walk, there are many beaches on the Moray coastline, Lossiemouth being the closest to Glengower House.
Some places of historic interest in the area are Ballindalloch Castle, which is also surrounded by stunning scenery, Balvenie Castle, and Fort George.
Elgin Cathedral is picturesque and offers the opportunity to climb its tower and enjoy the views around Elgin. It also has the bonus of being close to Johnston's of Elgin Cashmere Centre. A great place to shop and stop for coffee or lunch.
Why not explore the Malt Whiksy Trail which takes in many of the famous whisky distilleries nearby. Come and visit from 1-10 May 2009 for the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. The distilleries have visitor centres which run tours and sell some of Scotland's best whiskies.

Please note that this is totally non smoking accommodation. 
Housekeeping and cooking can be arranged for guests.
Children are welcome, cots and high chair are available on request. There are also some babysitters available in the village.
Up to two well-behaved dogs will be welcome if they are kept out of carpeted areas.
