"My friend and I stayed in a twin room on 16th August 2008. This hotel highlights the easiest ways for a trip to be positively memorable. It really doesn't take much. Helpful staff, good food, fresh and clean room. Actually maybe that is a bit simplistic. The hotel has been refurbished, in the last couple of years, to a very high standard. The room was on the top floor and of a reasonable size. The walls and carpeting were fresh and neutral. The shower room was immaculate and little design features were evident throughout. As a bonus fluffy gowns, slippers and Molton Brown products helped us relax! The restaurant was busy (we were glad we'd booked. The food was spot on with a nice mix of delicious choices. Just to give you and idea we had - starters: haddock and cheese tart, goats cheese salad mains: scallops in a green ginger sauce, stuffed turbot puds: bailey's cheesecake, apple and cinnamon crumble. Greedy? Yes, but so would you be! We were on a flying visit so didn't explore too much of the area but the village was very pleasant and we enjoyed a riverside walk before dinner." "We stayed at The Ship Inn on 9-10 August 2008 and I cannot fault it at all. It was a lovely hotel and the staff were fantastic. They could not do enough for their guests, and they easily answered any questions and requests that we had. We also ate in the restaurant and the food was fantastic. Very fresh vegetables, local organic meats and the odd dish with a twist! The furnishing of our standard room was very modern and contemporary with neutral colours, flat screen TV, modern bathroom and Molten Brown products and lots water, coffee, tea, and fruit teas to choose from. The area of the Gatehouse of Fleet is especially nice to walk around at night. The main street has a lovely glow to it and it is great to walk by the river in the peace and quiet and watch the swans go by. The area has a good number of pubs, art galleries and shops and is close to the town of Kirkcudbright and only a short distance from Newton Stewart, Bladnoch Whisky Distillery, David Coulthard Museum and Cream O'Galloway Ice Cream Farm. 10 out of 10. A very welcoming hotel and a great area!" Marie, UK, Visited August 2008
