Location
Maenllwyd is just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Machynlleth and 10 minutes walk from the railway station.
The town itself lies north east of Aberystwyth and north west of Newtown. It is also just to the south of Dolgellau's attractions.
Two stretches of inland water are close by, the Nant-y-Moch Reservoir and Llyn Clywedog, and the Ceredigon Heritage Coast is to the west.
Leisure
The beaches on the Cambrian Coast of Wales are unspoilt and sandy with the resorts of Aberdovey and Tywyn both a short drive from Maenllwyd.
Popular with the children is the Talyllyn narrow gauge railway, which runs from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol.
Local attractions (within 5 miles) include the Celtica Experience and the Centre for Alternative Technology [CAT for short], which is recognised throughout the world.
At The CAT, a unique water powered railway hoists visitors up to a clifftop. The 7 acre exhibition site is also a working community with features such as:
- exhibits of wind, solar and water energy sources
- adventure playground
- organic gardens
- farm animals
- restaurant and shops
The harbour at Aberystwyth is particularly picturesque, with the horizon a mixture of fantastic shades of blue.
The area is also known for an abundance of mines, both gold and slate, castles and mills, some of which are still in use today.
Other activities available include:
- walking and bird watching
- golf - 6 courses within an 18 mile radius
- pony trekking
